Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of John (20: 1-2, 11-18) which tells of Mary Magdalene’s experience after the Resurrection of Jesus. After reading the Gospel, Fr Paul shares a little about St Mary Magdalene whose feast we celebrate today.Fr Paul says St Mary Magdalene, or Mary of Magdala, was healed of seven devils by Jesus. She went on then to minister to him in Galilee. She was present when Jesus was crucified. She was also among the group of women who were the first to discover the empty tomb.As we heard in today’s Gospel, Fr Paul notes, it was Mary Magdalene that Jesus first appeared to after his Resurrection.Because of all these things Mary Magdalene is a unique and important person in the story of Christ and his Resurrection.  She is one of the first witnesses to an event that we know has changed the world. So today on her feast day, we pray, ‘St Mary Magdalene, Pray for us!’
