Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Luke (10: 1-9) in which Jesus sends his disciples out ‘like lambs among wolves’ to spread the news that the kingdom of God is near. Afterwards, Fr Paul shares a little about the life of St Luke whose feast we celebrate today.
Luke was a Greek doctor who converted to Christianity. He was a companion of the Apostle Paul and wrote the Gospel we have been reading from in accordance with Paul’s teaching. He also wrote the Acts of the Apostles, which details the early history of the Church up to Paul’s first stay in Rome. As a Greek, Luke always takes care to explain to the Gentile readers Jewish customs and the meaning of the Hebrew word.
Today, according to our tradition Fr Paul says we ask, St Luke pray for us.
At the close of his reflection, Fr Paul notes that his colleagues will be taking turns to fill in for him for a couple of weeks as he takes a break after his radiation treatment. Fr Paul will return in mid-November and asks for your continued prayers as he recovers and as we move forward with restrictions for COVID being lifted. He thanks everyone for their support and kindness over the past months.
