St Lucy
As we celebrate the memorial of St Lucy today, Fr Paul reads today from the Gospel of Matthew (21: 23-27) in which the chief priests and the elders question the authority of Jesus.

Fr Paul says, unfortunately, we don’t know very much about Lucy at all. She was martyred in Syracuse during a persecution of the Church, which started about 303AD.  We also know that devotion to her spread rapidly right across the Church. Other than that, the only other thing that is known is that St Lucy is one of only a few women mentioned in the Roman Canon Eucharistic Prayer I.

And so, today, as we celebrate her life, Fr Paul says, we pray ‘St Lucy, pray for us!’
