Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Mark (3: 7-12) in which Jesus departed with his disciples to the sea and a great multitude from Galilee followed him.As we hear in this Gospel, Jesus withdraws to the lakeside and a great crowd gathers around him and we hear a summary of the work Jesus is doing. He teaches and he cures and in doing this the people start to discover who and what Jesus is. Fr Paul notes, through the unclean spirits, we learn that Jesus is the Son of God.  The first human to say these words is the centurion at the foot of the cross when Jesus is crucified.  ‘Son of God’ means that Jesus is an agent of God; he exercises God’s power; he shares God’s will and does it.  So, Fr Paul says, the unclean spirits are telling us that God is at work in Jesus, that Jesus is also divine.Fr Paul says, for our reflection, a great crowd gathers around Jesus and they ask for help, ‘What would I ask Jesus to help me with at this moment in my life?
