Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Mark (6: 7-13) where Jesus made a tour around the villages and sent the Twelve around in pairs to share the faith.
In today’s Gospel we hear the instruction for those going out on the mission. Fr Paul says, effectively they are to travel light and speed is essential to get the message. They do this by wearing sandals and food is to come from those who welcome them, and to not to waste time on those who reject them. Fr Paul notes today there is sorrow, distress, fraud, jealousy, hatred and plenty of other evils that fracture the Kingdom of God. Our efforts today seem miniscule but we cannot sit back. Like the missioners of Jesus in the Gospel today the task of spreading the teachings of Jesus still needs to be urgently and quickly done. For our reflection today, Fr Paul says we might ask ourselves, ‘in what way can I be a missionary now?’
