Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Mark (7: 31-37) in which Jesus heals a man who is deaf and mute.
Fr Paul says the activity of Jesus as he goes around doing all things well, as the Gospel describes, is the coming of God in our world. Jesus is the sacrament of God. In Jesus, God is active in the world, bringing peace, healing and joy. In Jesus, people met and experienced God. As we hear in today’s Gospel, when he puts his fingers into the man’s ears and touched his tongue with spittle, Jesus is showing that God is physically at work in him and in the world. So, as Christians, we too cannot hold back from the time when we have to be involved physically and totally in helping others around us because we, too, can bring Christ’s healing in countless simple ways. For our reflection today, Fr Paul invites us to think about, ‘What can I simply do to bring Christ’s peace, Christ’s healing, and Christ’s joy to those around me?’
