Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Mark (16: 15-20) in which Jesus says to the Eleven ‘Go out to the whole world proclaim the good news to all creation’. Afterwards, Fr Paul shares a little about the life of St Mark the Evangelist.
Mark, notes Fr Paul, was a cousin of Barnabas and he accompanied the Apostle Paul on his first missionary journey; later he followed Paul to Rome. Mark was also a disciple of Peter, and his Gospel is told from Peter’s point of view. Mark is also credited with founding the Church in Alexandria. His body was stolen from Alexandria in 828 and taken to Venice, which adopted him as its patron saint. Today, we pray: St Mark…Pray for us!
