Fr Paul Gooley reads from the Gospel of Matthew (25: 14-30) in which Jesus tells the parable of talents about a man who gave his wealth to his servants to invest, each according to their ability.

Fr Paul says this is a long and detailed parable by Matthew. The central message though is about risk and trust.

As Christians we are called to put our faith in an unseen God who was nailed to a cross. For us to make such a choice in means deep trust and surrendering ourselves to a mystery.

In a time when we are always seeking and expecting answers, a time when we want proof before we do or believe in anything, it can be challenging to take a risk with our heart and believe in something that is unseen. It makes us vulnerable and uncomfortable.

The parable today though teaches us that for those who do take that risk and trust in the unknown then they will be rewarded again and again.

For our reflection, Fr Paul invites us to consider this question, ‘How prepared am I to risk and to trust in Jesus?’.
