Jesus the Good Shepherd
Traditionally, today’s Gospel replicates the one used yesterday for Good Shepherd Sunday so Fr Paul opts to use the alternate Gospel of the day (John 10: 11-18), which continues the theme of ‘Jesus, the Good Shepherd’.
As always, Fr Paul sets the scene with his vivid description of the unruly sheep in rugged, dangerous territory as the shepherd, who is constantly alert, protects them.
Fr Paul says the imagery of the Good Shepherd shows us just how intimate and generous God’s Love for us is. He reminds us how valued and respected we feel when someone we meet remembers our name. God knows our name.
This Gospel reminds us of God’s loving care and protection and challenges us to ask ourselves, ‘How can I share His love with those around me?’
Thank you Paul. Very comforting words and may the 4th be with you.
