Choosing places of honour at a feast

Fr Paul reads the Gospel for today from Luke (14: 1, 7-11) about choosing places of honour at a wedding feast.

Today, we hear a parable about being invited to a meal and the places that set for that meal. Jesus is saying to us we should be aware of our own worth, that we should be humble, that we should not assume that we are better than others.

Fr Pauls says, the final sentence of the Gospel also introduces a new and essential idea, that human honour and respect is of little value for true honour only comes from God.
The moral message of the Gospel is that we should not think we are better than we are.

Mindful of this message and for our reflection time today, Fr Paul says we might ask ourselves, ‘Am I humble as I live out my life or do I think that I am better than everyone else?’
