Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Luke (11: 27-28) in which Jesus says happy are those who hear the word of God and keep it.

Fr Paul says today’s Gospel is one of the shortest with only two verses, so this is a very small exchange between Jesus and this woman in the crowd.  This Gospel relates to yesterday’s Gospel, where towards the end Fr Paul mentioned that we must respond positively to the power of God in our midst.

The woman in today’s Gospel does just that. She responds in a positive manner to Jesus and what he is teaching. Even though she positively responds with her declaration about how happy a person should be, Fr Paul says, for our reflection today, we might reflect on Jesus’ response to her… ‘still happier are those who hear the word of God and keep it’.
