Fr Paul says in today’s Gospel (Matthew 9: 32-38) we hear Jesus say to His disciples “the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Fr Paul says that this Gospel tells another wonder of Jesus’ miracles. He cures a dumb demoniac and yet even though He cures this man, we hear the sarcastic response of the Pharisees that Jesus is in the power of the devil. Despite this, Matthew, the Gospel writer, is stressing that Jesus is the salvation of Israel, He is Israel’s saviour. Hence the words from the Gospel “nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel. He also stresses the response of the people and Jesus continues to go around teaching in their Synagogues.

For our reflection today, Fr Paul reminds us that Jesus has the power to heal; spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically.
