Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Matthew (25: 1-13) in which Jesus tells the parable about the sensible and foolish bridesmaids waiting for the bridegroom to arrive.

Fr Paul says like any good parable, this parable of the ten bridesmaids has layers of meaning. At its heart it is about waiting and being prepared. Jesus puts the parable within the context of a wedding feast which is one of life’s most significant moments. A moment that celebrates a union.

An experience of deep union and intimacy with our God is a great gift and we do not know when it will come. All we can do is be prepared – prepare our hearts and be ready through good works.

For our reflection, Fr Paul says we might ask ourselves, ‘How prepared am I to meet God?’
