Fr Paul reads from Matthew’s Gospel (21: 33-43, 45-46) in which Jesus tells a parable about the landowner who leases his vineyard to tenants while he is out of the country.

Fr Paul says, this Gospel really does highlight the rising tensions between Jesus and some of the Jewish leaders. You can almost feel the noose tightening around Jesus’s neck.

Jesus uses this parable about the tenants of the vineyard to show that the Jewish leaders were not leading the people as they should.

As our Lenten journey continues, Fr Paul asks, unlike the Jewish leaders, ‘Are we open to the idea that we might be wrong? Are we open to the idea that our service of the Lord may faulty in some way? Are we open to the idea that the people we find tiresome or unacceptable may have more good in them than we credit them?
