Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Mark (8: 11-13) in which the Pharisees ask Jesus for a sign from heaven. Afterwards Fr Paul shares a little about the lives of St Cyril and St Methodius whose memorials we celebrate today.Methodius was born we think around 826 in Thessalonica. His brother is Cyril, and both went to Moravia to preach the faith. They translated liturgical texts into the Slavonic language.  After Cyril’s death, Methodius went to Pannonia and died there in 885.Cyril, we think was born around 827 and like his brother born in Thessalonica.  We know that Cyril was educated at Constantinople; travelled with his brother; and helped him in trying to preach to the Slavonic peoples.  When they were called back to Rome this is were Cyril died in the year 869.So, Fr Paul, on this day, invites us day to ask St Cyril and St Methodius pray for us!
