Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Luke (9: 46-50) in which Jesus tells his disciples, ‘The least among you all that is the one who is great’. After reading the Gospel, Fr Paul shares a little about the life of St Vincent de Paul, whose memorial is celebrated today.

Vincent de Paul was born in 1581 in Aquitaine. He became a priest and as such he devoted his whole life to the service of the poor.  He founded a congregation of priests for missionary work. He founded groups of lay people to help the poor and destitute and, with St Louise de Marillac, he also established the Sisters of Charity.  He died in 1660.

As we do, in the tradition of our communion of Saints, Fr Paul says, we ask St Vincent de Paul, pray for us!
