Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Matthew (9: 18-26) in which the daughter of an official is restored to life and a woman, who touches the cloak of Jesus is healed of a long-term illness.
As we begin this week, the Gospel tells us of the healing of two women and, Fr Paul says, the writer of Matthew’s Gospel is only wanting to emphasis two points by sharing these two healings. The first point is the faith of the woman and those around them. The second point is the authority of Jesus. That’s all the Gospel writer wants to emphasise – the faith that is involved and the power of authority Jesus has. Fr Paul says, with this in mind, we might reflect on the words of Jesus and how they can apply in our own lives: ‘Courage, your faith has restored you.”
