Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Matthew (13: 10-17) in which disciples ask Jesus why he talks to the people in Parables.

Fr Paul says in today’s Gospel today the question the disciples ask is a question that you and I might also ask – why all the parables? Why all these stories?

Jesus’ answer to the question is that the disciples have received a great gift. They are learning the mysteries of the kingdom. And, unlike the other people, the disciple’s eyes and ears remain open to seeing, listening and perceiving what Jesus is teaching and doing.

Fr Paul says we, too, have received the same gift.

So today, he says, we might reflect on the questions – where do I see and hear God today? Do I truly understand what Jesus is teaching and doing?
