Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Luke (6: 27-38) in which Jesus says, ‘Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you’.

Fr Paul observes in this Gospel that Luke expresses how it is our duty to respond to those in need, even if they are hostile, even if they hate us.  We must not work out what we might get back and there is no limit to how much we lend or give.  We must not judge; but we must forgive to be forgiven; and most of all, we need to be compassionate.

Luke, in this Gospel, is telling us it is all about the heart. We must be emotionally involved with those in need, no matter how hard it might be.

So mindful of Luke’s lesson today, for our reflection Fr Paul asks, ‘How can I help those in need around me?’
