Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Matthew (6: 25-34) in which Jesus tells us not to worry about anything that the heavenly Father will look after us. Afterwards, Fr Paul shares a little about the live of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop whose memorial we celebrate today.

Fr Paul says Mary MacKillop was born in Melbourne and worked as a governess and a teacher to support her family. In 1866 she founded St Joseph’s School, the first free Catholic school in Australia. With Father Julian Tenison Woods she founded an order of nuns, the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. They opened many schools and other charitable institutions, and they continue to this day.

She was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on 17 October 2010 and is the first Australian to be made a saint.

On this day, Fr Paul invites us to pray St Mary MacKillop…pray for us!
