Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Mark (8: 22-26) in which the man who was blind sees again after an encounter with Jesus. Fr Paul says this Gospel comes about after the restoration of the man’s sight and comes before Peter is granted the clarity to see who Jesus really is.  The process we hear described in the Gospel, Fr Paul notes, is also symbolic of the granting of sight in two stages the man sees a little at first and then he sees clearly.  Peter will declare his faith in Jesus as the Messiah, but he still does not understand what this means.  It is interesting that this is the only healing in the synoptic Gospels where Jesus heals by physical means, the use of spittle and the laying on of hands. For our reflection today, Fr Paul asks us, ‘What areas of our life are in need of healing? What areas of our lives do we need to see more clearly?’
