Today as we celebrate the feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Luke (1: 39-56) in which Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth, who says ‘Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled’.

Fr Paul says the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth. Many biblical scholars believe that Mary visited Elizabeth to help Elizabeth in the last three months of her pregnancy. This would make sense as we know that Elizabeth was an older woman when her baby was conceived. Mary may have even helped with the birth of Elizabeth’s child – John the Baptist.

As we celebrate the Visitation, Fr Paul reminds us that this event highlights the charitable heart of Mary.
