Fr Paul reads from the Gospel of Mark (3: 22-30) in which the scribes say the devil is behind the healing works of Jesus. After reading today’s Gospel, Fr Paul shares a little about the life of St Francis de Sales, whose memorial we celebrate today.
Fr Paul notes, Francis was born in Auvergne in Savoie in 1567. He studied Law and then was ordained a priest despite the opposition of his father. His first mission was to re-evangelise the people of his own region and within four years many had returned to the Church. He was then appointed the Bishop of Geneva and spent the rest of his life reforming and reorganising the Diocese and caring for the souls placed in his care. He died in 1622. St Francis is the patron saint of journalists and writers. Today Fr Paul says we ask St Francis, pray for us!
