John’s Gospel (6: 52-59) today sees Jesus teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum. He causes a stir among the Jews there who say ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’

Fr Paul explains how this Gospel connects to what we’ve heard over the last couple of days and how it mirrors some of what we do in the Mass. The Liturgy of the Word is proclaimed, then the wisdom of God is  broken open and explained in the Homily before we move to the liturgy of the Eucharist, which nourishes us with the body and blood of Jesus, our Bread of Life.

In our reflection today, we give thanks for the Eucharist and look forward to the time when we can again listen to the Word, break open its meaning and receive Jesus in the Eucharist.
