Fr Paul Gooley reads from the Gospel of Mark (16: 15-20) in which the disciples, having been commissioned by Jesus, went out and ‘preached everywhere, and the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the signs that accompanied it’. Afterwards, Fr Paul shares a little about Mark, the Evangelist, whose feast we celebrate today rather yesterday due to ANZAC day.

Fr Paul says Mark was a cousin of Barnabas and accompanied the Apostle Paul on his first missionary journey; and later he followed Paul to Rome. Mark was a disciple of Peter, and his Gospel is told from Peter’s point of view. Mark is also credited with founding the Church in Alexandria. His body was stolen from Alexandria in 828 and taken to Venice, which adopted him as its patron saint.

So today, Fr Paul invite us to ask ‘St Mark… Pray for us!’
