With the celebration of Pentecost on Sunday, Fr Paul says we now move back into the Ordinary Time in the Church’s liturgical calendar.  After reading the Gospel from Luke (1: 39-56), Fr Paul shares a little more about this feast of Mary Help of Christians.

Mary, under this title, Mary Help of Christians, was chosen as the patroness of Australasia by the first provincial Synod of the church which was held in Sydney in 1844. As the colony was being established, Mary’s help was needed at that time.  It is still needed to this very day.

Fr Paul notes, we are helped by Mary’s intercession and by the example of her life.
Today, as we celebrate the Feast of Mary Help of Christians, patron saint of Australia and, Fr Paul says, as we do in the tradition of the Church we ask… Mary Help of Christians, pray for us.
